I think just about every camper that had reservations including us checked out early due to these problems. We will definitely never go back.
There is absolutely no TV! Since we could not sit outside at our camp site, we were hoping to be able to watch tv in the evening. NO! There was not a single channel and the park is right on a main road so there should be no reason that there are no channels.
Great Birding! Lots of History. Clean facilities. *poor cell service, but it was nice to unplug for awhile*
I have been coming to this park since I was a little girl and just everything about it is perfect. You can home ride, canoe or kayak, camp, go on trails and do some hikes. Don't forget about it's history and some of its own little land marks.
It was horrible!! We just came back from camping at Collier Seminole State Park! We camp at all the state parks in Florida and have enjoyed every one of them but not this one, it was a nightmare! The park was totally infested with mosquitoes!! They were around the campsites by the thousands. We had one tree at our site that was packed with fire ants and we had our little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with us. He got his little face bitten by them before we knew they were there. Two of the rangers did come after a neighbor reported the fire ants and put a powder around the tree that was to kill them.
Amazing rangers, campers, nice campsites but the fire ants and the mosquitos were absurd. Good areas in each site and Marco was easily accessible. The stars at night were beautiful and i had never seen such a nice sky before. I also got to see my first shooting star
On our third day a ranger came to our door very early in the morning telling me that we had to take our mosquito trap down. I explained to him that it was not a zapper and it did not kill any bugs. It traps them and we release the good bugs if any are in the trap. I told him that two other rangers had been at our camp site twice checking on the fire ants and were looking at the mosquito trap and said nothing. He said that did not matter and I needed to take it down. He was nice about it but that was ridiculous, we were infested with mosquitoes!
I visited this park years ago,it was early spring the mosquitoes are darting, those bites will definitely wake u up. Conoeing was great, water not too deep could see the bottom. Love some of the trails we were able to go into the woods, though we didn't see any wild animals. The bathroom were clean, plenty of warm water for shower, remember to always take a pair of sandals for the shower. Washer and dryer available on site. The park rangers were very helpful, and informative, the sites offer semi privacy, alot better than some of the other state parks. I would definitely visit here again even just for the canoeing.
